The American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia is an association aiming to promote the development of commercial relations between Georgia, the United States of America, and the international business community, across sectors including agriculture, energy, finance, industry, technology, trade, transportation, taxation, and related fields.

The Chamber protects and promotes the common economic interests of its members, assists them in attaining legitimate business objectives, and represents their opinions on economic matters, while striving to facilitate constructive solutions to issues concerning Georgia-US business relations.

The Chamber promotes its goals by establishing and maintaining relations with key stakeholders in both the United States and Georgia, including cooperation with the US Chamber of Commerce and other relevant institutions. Additionally, the Chamber collects and disseminates timely information concerning areas of interest, organizes conferences, seminars, and networking events, works on issues and initiatives of concern to the business community, and most importantly, provides an ongoing forum for members of the American business community to gather, share knowledge, experiences, challenges, and solutions, and foster business connections.

The AmCham CLT committee met to discuss the issues that come up in legal practice and represent obstacles for practitioners. Two directions- judiciary and public registrations- have been selected as the streams where certain issues come up currently. The committee also discussed the tax dispute resolution practice and possible ways of improving the system. The committee will organize a meeting with the Ministry of Finance in this regards and will continue working on the issues discussed at the meeting during the course of 2023.

CLT Committee meeting

AmCham's CLT committee met to discuss the ongoing legal and tax related matters practitioners come across on regular basis. The law on entrepreneurs as well as labor code provisions were named as most relevant and it was decided to follow-up on them in 2023. The tax dispute resolution cases were discussed and it was decided to revert to this topic in the upcoming year.

AmCham CLT Committee met on 18 March. The Committee discussed ongoing current legal issues and AmCham’s involvement. In particular the Committee discussed tax issues, new provisions as to VAT taxation, labour code amendments and their practical implementation and draft regulation on foreign ownership of agricultural land via investment plan route.

CLT Committee Meeting

AmCham Georgia hosted a virtual CLT committee meeting to discuss new draft law on entrepreneurship. In order to have a more productive discussion co-drafters of this law Mr. Giorgi Jugeli, Legal Expert at the Investors Council and Deputy Head of Legal Programme at GIZ, Mr. Shalva Papuashvili were also invited, who kindly participated in the discussion and answered members' questions.

CLT Committee Meeting

CLT committee had an online meeting to discuss labor code changes as well as draft law on labor inspectorate. Members expressed their views regarding the proposed changes and came up with a common position in relation to it. The committee also discussed proposed tax code changes in relation to exemptions.

CLT Committee, Tourism Committee, Construction and Real Estate Committee meetings

The Commercial Law and Tax Committee, the Tourism Committee and the Construction and Real Estate Committee all had meetings today. Each meeting discussed the new situation - including issues about government coordination and the allowance of exceptions, how businesses will be able to get back to work and how AmCham can help with private sector/government coordination. All three committees will be meeting regularly in the next few weeks to carry-on coordinating our responses.
